Residential Support

Basu Point

The mission of Basu Point is to provide affordable housing for people with mental illness, substance abuse and/or criminal histories to live on their own and enhance their personal living skills to a level that celebrates recovery and success.

Basu Point is located at 2205 N. Blanchard Street in Findlay, Ohio and provides permanent supportive housing for Hancock County residents.  Persons eligible for residency are adults who are affected by mental illness and/or substance abuse and who have had little success in obtaining housing.   Homeless persons or those at-risk of homelessness are considered a priority for residency.   Basu Point offers a safe, secure and stable residence conducive to rebuilding lives.  The semi-structured environment provides an on-site residential manager and allows residents to re-learn successful living skills, as well as access the support of peers who have experienced similar challenges.

Program Goals:

  • Reduce recidivism from jail, prison, psychiatric hospitalization and substance abuse/addiction residential treatment.
  • Provision of permanent, safe and affordable housing.
  • To assist residents in obtaining and maintaining (living wage) employment.
  • To support successful residency within the community.
  • To promote a positive and responsible lifestyle.

Basu Point was dedicated on 3/27/09 and named in honor of Dr. Basanti Basu, Century Health’s Medical Director.  Naming the facility in her honor acknowledges Dr. Basu’s “tireless commitment to persons impacted by mental illness and/or substance abuse and her belief that every individual possesses unique gifts to be treasured by all."

Fostoria Junction

Fostoria Junction offers 15 furnished apartments in Fostoria, Ohio (population 13,000) for persons with serious mental illness.  Fostoria Junction is owned and operated by Neighborhood Properties in Toledo, Ohio and offers a unique Supportive Housing Plus model of care.  Residents of Hancock County occupy seven of the fifteen units.  Century Health provides treatment services to residents of Fostoria Junction.

The Fostoria Junction is defined as “permanent supportive housing” but this facility gives a person more than a place to stay. It also includes 24-hour support and supervision to help the tenant live independently and grow. For some tenants, oversight is provided by the staff to monitor how they are functioning and managing in their home.  For others it means gentle reminders - to pay rent, to take medication, etc.

The program is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provides two meals per day provided by the Fostoria Hospital.  The Fostoria Junction is responsive to individual needs and tailors assistance to each tenant. The very attractive apartment homes at Fostoria Junction were built in 2006. In addition to the furnished one-bedroom apartment units, the common areas exude a warm, personal atmosphere.
